MacRae of Conchra

Clansman's Badge

The clan badge is the fir club moss. The plant badge of a clansman was a sprig fixed on a staff, spear or bonnet. It was supposed to possess magical powers as the following translation from the Gaelic indicates:

The fir club moss is on my person,
No harm or mishap can me befall,
No sprite shall slay me, no arrow shall wound me,
No fay or dun water nymph shall tear me.

The clan slogan or war cry was Sgurr Fuarhan, the most prominent peak of the Five Sisters of Kintail.

Coat of Arms

Argent, a fess between two mullets in chief, and a lion rampant in base gules.

Crest

An arm in armour holding a scimitar proper (view image).

Motto

Fortitudine ("By Fortitude")
